To Christians who are "in" or "not yet" or "had ex" relationship...
Recently, this book "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" (and also "Boy Meet Girl") was so popular among the groups of people mentioned above that it started to become "The Bible of Relationships".
Let me get straight to the point. Those books are good & Joshua Harris does have a very good point (& it's biblical too). His advices are practical. Those are good books & I do support the reading of it too. I am NOT against the book, don't get me wrong. I'm supporting the book.
The problem is not with the book. But the attitude of people reading the book. Correct me if I'm wrong, this is based on my observation & experiences talking with those who had read them. To those who are not yet in a relationship, the books are like "Revelation" to them . To those who are in a relationship, the books are like "Gospel" to them. To those who had break ups, the books are like "Old Testament" to them.
There are MANY OTHER Christian books written by godly authors about relationships, yet it seems like this is the MUST READ or "The Bible of Relationships". Everywhere everyone (the group of people) talks about it. I don't understand since when Joshua Harris become the prophet of relationships & his writing is venerated like "holy scroll". Whenever there's conversation about BGR (boy-girl relationship), when asking "what YOU think/experienced/know about this or that...." there's high probability of answering "the BOOK says..." or "HE (author) said....". Where is their own opinion & understanding about BGR? Why is the "meditation" of his writing there? Everyone's BGR is special, unique case, different from others. His principle may be universal, but there is no "one-fit-all" book. Please read other books as well. & know what is written in the Bible also.
Although the book is good, don't meditate it like a Bible. Don't idolize Joshua Harris. He is not God. His word is not The Word. He is just a servant of God. Don't make him into an object of sin (idol). I wonder how many actually understand his forewords? His advices & ideas are good, but everyone's situation is different. His intenion is to lay down the godly foundation of biblical BGR, not pointing a gun at every's neck to follow him word by word. His intention is to raise awareness about the rightful BGR before God with his writings, not to saturate people's mind with his writings akin to meditation or "holy words". Don't make his godly writing into sin. Don't read his book more than the Bible when you are intersted to learn more about relationship. His books are NOT the sole truth or "handbooks" or "dummies guide" of BGR. The Holy Bible is the one.
Joshua Harris is telling people to have BGR the God's way, NOT Joshua Harris way. Please have your own mind & thinking in your specific unique relationships. Blend it into his book (AND other Christian BGR books), & remember the Bible! Please understand his intention & hope before jumping straight into the contents.
BTW, it's a good book. By all means, read & study it.
for those who know me well enough, for me to write this kind of thing..........
